Metamorphosis of Fashion : Butterfly Couture in a Dystopian Future

Rena Imaseki

Group C: Primary school – P4 to P6

Hand Drawing / Painting

The “butterfly-inspired couture” represents a metaphorical design for wearable fashion that is kind to nature, beautiful, flexible, lightweight, dynamic in form and durability.
The butterfly couture is also depicted as a symbol of transformation where sustainable and adaptable fashion is going to take lead in the future. There will be will more emphasis on longevity, eco-conscious and multifunctional pieces that could adapt to the environment, akin to a transformative butterfly.
The glamorous stage is juxtaposed with a surreal dystopian backdrop, that by 2050, the world will face environmental chaos. However, fashion and glam will still serve humanity as a form of escapism, self expression and rebellion against these challenges. Hence, “the butterfly couture” symbolises a bold and defiant statement of beauty where fashion still thrives in creativity and resilience against danger and fragility.
My contrast surrealistic adoption of reality and fantasy here narrates that advance technology , augmented reality with fashion will coexist in the future.
The floating “sales” bags and the couture dress made from colourful trash materials at the background symbolised the world will reject “fast fashion consumerism” all together to survive a burning dystopian world by 2050.

Fashion of Tomorrow

Hand Drawing / Painting

“Fashion of Tomorrow” envisions a future where fashion is deeply intertwined with technology. In this piece, I explored the concept of interactive clothing made possible by advancements in fabric technology. A revolutionary material allows individuals to instantly change the colour of their outfits via a phone app, creating a dynamic, customisable wardrobe on demand. My painting reflects the endless possibilities for personal expression in a world where fashion adapts to the wearer’s desires in real-time. The vibrant colours and sleek design elements convey the fusion of style and innovation that will define future fashion trends.
