創作靈感來自孟克的《吶喊》。原作在畫面、風格和色彩上都充滿沉重與悲傷,我透過這二次創作,為這幅經典畫作注入陽光、色彩和趣味元素,使觀賞者能感受到陽光帶來的快樂與幽默。
畫中,身穿黑裝的吸血鬼伯爵與繽紛的沙灘格格不入,而他的女兒卻與丈夫穿著繽紛的服裝到沙灘遊玩,手中拿著彩虹傘遮擋陽光。但固執的他不肯聽女兒的勸告差點被陽光曬融。畫作表達的道理是:適者生存,固執不變則會招致麻煩。
畫作運用了蠟筆和水彩,展現出鮮豔而朦朧的效果,並呈現出油畫的質感。

In Edvard Munch famous painting “The Scream”, there’s a figure standing on a bridge, believed to be Munch himself, overwhelmed by the blood-red sky, supposedly caused by a volcanic eruption in Indonesia, whose massive explosion affected the atmosphere worldwide. The never-ending depth of the sea below the bridge symbolizes Munch’s fear of falling, reflecting his emotional struggles. The bridge’s railing symbolizes protection, as during the real-life event, many people panicked and fell into the sea. Boats were there to rescue them. And, there were two figures in the background with no identity.

In my version of “The Scream”, I would love to know the point-of-view of those two mysterious figures and how they may interpret the situations.

I depict those two persons, screaming in fear looking at how Munch responds to his surroundings. Placing them in front of Munch, I emphasize how others might react to the chaotic situation and how someone mental state can affect others, showing a shared anxiety.

In my acrylic recreation, I used thick layers to emphasize the disturbing chaos and fearful atmosphere. I chose this artwork because its inspiration is supposed to relate to my country’s extraordinary events, Indonesia’s 1883 Krakatau eruption.

這次參賽的作品 ,我挑選的是荷蘭畫家維梅爾的作品「戴珍珠耳環的少女」,對其進行了二次創作。
在繪畫過程中,我保留了這幅世界名作本身基本的色調和光影關係。使用鮮明的明暗對比來增強畫面的立體感和少女面部的輪廓。
此外最與眾不同的是,我將這幅世界名作、融入了我最喜歡的教堂花窗元素。本身畫作中戴珍珠耳環少女穿著的頭巾和衣物是一種柔軟且精緻的。我打破了這個常規 ,在繪畫上取而代之的是用一種堅硬的玻璃質感來代替,並融入了教堂花窗獨特的藝術性。因為教堂花窗本身就是世界上一種獨特而美麗的藝術形式。我盡可能的去使用一些通透且亮麗的顏色來進行色彩搭配,就如同教堂花窗本身的藝術魅力一樣。

Intertwined

‘Intertwined’ aims to depict the intimate connection between past and present, in this case Singapore’s, where the artist was raised. The canvas is divided into two sections, with the right side portraying past Singapore while the left portrays the present. On the right, a woman wearing Baju Kurung–traditional Malay clothing that Singaporean women had worn–is shown, while a traditional shophouse is painted in the background. Singapore’s national flower, the orchid, surrounds the right corner. On the left, another woman is shown wearing present clothing, with a simple background of clouds that add a whimsical nature to the painting. The two women are depicted to be conversing intimately with each other, symbolising the close relationship between past and present.
This oil painting references artist Dean Cornwell’s works, specifically the painting ‘Earth–Gold in the ground'(1932). The unique blue and orange undertones of his painting was applied to this artwork, helping to create a clear divide between the two sections of past and present. This contrasting colour choice emphasises on the different experiences of the past and present. However, these complementary colours create a simultaneous contrast that brings harmony into the painting, which helps to represent the theme
of interconnection between generations.
